Pfizer has awarded Grass Roots a three-year contract to manage its European international congresses.

It is the first agency to be named on Pfizer’s new event agency roster and the contract represents one of 22 new client wins for Grass Roots in 2009.

Grass Roots EventCom Managing Director, Nick Bender declined to reveal the value of the contract but anticipated managing more than 10,000 Pfizer delegates annually.

Pfizer has undertaken a process to consolidate the 50 event management agencies in 23 countries that it previously used in Europe. Pfizer European Procurement Meeting and Congress Category Lead, Andrew Gilkerson, said the process was yet to be finalised. Gilkerson said, in June, that the consolidation project was designed to secure a 10% cost saving.

Grass Roots reported pre-tax profits of more than £1.6m and turnover of £49.6m for the year ending June 2009. Biogen, BP Castrol and the Learning Grid are among other new client wins.
