30TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY HITS ALL THE RIGHT NOTES
18th May 2010
The inbox of Grass Roots Chairman David Evans has been flooded with tributes following the spectacular Party in the Park staged by the firm in the town of Tring on Saturday May 15 to celebrate Grass Roots Group's 30th anniversary.
Well over 3,000 people enjoyed the sunshine at the musical extravaganza which featured a stunning line up of top musical acts. Food and refreshment stalls around the venue at the local football club were manned by the town's various sports clubs and schools, all of whom will benefit in a revenue share from the concert, which was entirely funded by David and the company he founded in Tring in 1980.
Local band Soul Fish got the party going with their unique brand of high energy Soul and Rhythm and Blues. They were followed by The Music of Queen featuring songs from the West End smash hit musical, We Will Rock You, supported by a full proms orchestra. Joining the orchestra for the final part of the show was Welsh tenor Wynne Evans, famous for his rousing vocal performance in the Go Compare television advertising campaign. Evans brought the event to a fitting climax singing classics such as Nessun Dorma, Jerusalem and a stirring rendition of Rule Britannia.
Among the tributes that have been pouring in:
"Many thanks for organising such a fantastic event for the community of Tring. I am sure the event created memories which people will talk about for years" – Julia Wynd, Tring School
I have organised a few very modest events in my time and know first hand about the amount of the detail - you had it absolutely nailed and you were always so calm and this, on such an enormous scale. I have had quite a bit of feedback from Tring (as opposed to Grass Roots people) and they were all totally gob smacked by it. The quality of acts and technical detail was unbelievable. It really was thrilling to see it unfold. Grass Roots and their people are quite remarkable" – Robert Stringer, Tring Arts Trust.
Many of the emails and messages received at Grass Roots have expressed a huge desire to see the event repeated again next year.
"It's always been a personal fantasy of mine to stage a rock concert", commented Evans. He continued: "To do it for the town of Tring and to get this kind of reaction is hugely gratifying. We seem to have started something powerful here and I look forward to talking to the various beneficiaries and my colleagues at Grass Roots to see where we take it".
Evans has a long history of supporting the community which was recognised in 2008 when he was awarded an MBE for services to corporate social responsibility.
