Grass Roots brings engineering to life for children11th March, 2009Grass Roots has been appointed by the Learning Grid to deliver an engineering show for up to 2,000 school children at its Rockingham Festival this summer. The show will inform and inspire children to think differently about science and engineering and will open their eyes to the wealth of opportunities for exciting and rewarding careers. The show will be central to the Learning Grid’s three-day celebration of science and engineering taking place at Rockingham Motor Speedway near Corby, Northants between 30th June and 2nd July. The show will run three times daily for an audience of up to 650 secondary school children each day. Ian Major, Sponsorship and Communications Director of the Learning Grid, said: “Grass Roots have been appointed because they proved they really understood our needs and objectives and took the time to do independent research into the image of engineering today. We loved their rationale of showing ‘why’ engineering has created so many things, not just ‘how’ all the elements work.” Supported by Government, industry, the wider engineering community and not-for-profit institutions, the Learning Grid identifies and supports the very best, high quality, hands-on curriculum enrichment activities designed to enthuse young people in science and engineering. The brief for the engineering show was to create a fast-paced and exciting event based around science and technology in order to dispel the myth that engineering is just to do with fixing cars & mechanics and to give children an understanding of the role engineering plays in almost every facet of modern life and the varied possibilities a career in engineering can offer. Charles Moyle, Managing Director of Grass Roots Live commented: “By getting children to understand why the things they take for granted in daily life were created, and the many different aspects of engineering that make them work, we hope to inspire a new generation of engineers. We are thrilled to be working on such a worthwhile project.” Details of the Rockingham Festival, which is free to all school parties of children in Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 can be found at www.learninggrid.co.uk or by calling 0845 900 7755. | |
